Marseille's grilled fish, seared facing the sea
At Pointe Rouge, l'Estéou grills the fresh catch of the day on the plancha and over fire: sea bream, sea bass, John Dory or red mullet, served whole on the terrace, almost with your feet in the water. Pure produce, cooked just right.

The art of the grill
Grilling a fish means respecting it first
A good grilled fish hides behind no sauce: it lives on the freshness of the produce and the precision of the cooking. At l'Estéou, the selection follows the morning's catch landed at the Pointe Rouge port, never frozen, and every piece hits the grill at the right moment, at the right temperature.
Crisp skin, pearly flesh that lifts off with a fork: the fish is seared hot, drizzled with olive oil and a few southern herbs, then plated whole at the table. The sea on the plate, with nothing to hide it.
Why l'Estéou
Three reasons to taste the grilled fish here
The day's catch
Fish landed fresh at the nearby Pointe Rouge port: the menu follows the sea, for a grill with produce at its very best.
Cooked over fire
Blazing plancha and open grill: the fierce heat sears the skin and keeps the flesh tender, without ever drying it out.
Served facing the sea
A whole fish presented at the table, on a terrace open to the Mediterranean at sunset. A setting that matches the plate.
On the grill
From whole fish to seafood, it all goes over the fire
People come to l'Estéou for a whole grilled sea bream or sea bass, presented then filleted at the table, prawns snapped on the plancha or a tender grilled octopus. The fish changes with the deliveries: what comes out of the water in the morning ends up on the grill at noon.
To go with it, olive oil, local lemon and herbs are enough. And if the appetite runs over, the house adds its Marseille classics — bouillabaisse, fish soup and aïoli — to share unhurried, a glass of white Cassis in hand.

The atmosphere
The smell of the grill, the light of the setting sun
The best moment? When the sun dips over Pointe Rouge, the terrace fills up and the grill scents the sea air. A whole fish is shared, the glass of rosé lingers, and dinner settles in without a glance at the clock, facing the deep blue.

A Pointe Rouge address
The grill near the quay, the sea before your eyes
Set at 1 Avenue de la Pointe Rouge, a few metres from the port, l'Estéou owes its reputation to its setting as much as to its cooking. The fish comes from the neighbouring quay and you dine almost with your feet in the water, in the spirit of a Marseille cabanon.
From the Prado, Escale Borély, Bonneveine or Mazargues, a few minutes are all it takes to reach our table, from Tuesday to Sunday, and rest your eyes on the sea while the grill heats up.
