The spirit of the open sea

The spirit of a Marseille sea outing

In Marseille, the sea is no mere backdrop: it is a craft, a memory, a way of life. From Pointe Rouge, small boats slip out at dawn towards the calanques and the fishing grounds the elders pass down through the generations.

L'Estéou carries on this tradition. The owner knows his spots, his currents and his fishermen friends. A trip is that direct link between sea and table — a fish pulled up in the morning and savoured the very same evening, with no middleman.

Why come aboard

From the line to the plate, a whole experience

It is far more than a boat ride: it is the promise of a genuine moment, in tune with the sea and the fishermen's know-how.

  • Line fishing, respectful of the sea and the seasons.
  • Return to port, then your catch prepared in the kitchen.
  • A morning in the open air, calanques and Mediterranean light.

How it unfolds

What a trip looks like

01

Setting off

Meet at Pointe Rouge harbour early in the morning, when the sea is calm and the light still soft. We board and head out to sea.

02

The fishing

Line, patience and complicity with the owner. We read the sea, look for the shoals, savour the moment — the catch is never guaranteed, and that is its beauty.

03

Coming back

Course set for the harbour, then straight to the kitchen. Your fish becomes the dish of the day, served on the terrace facing the sunset.

The moment

The open sea, the light, the silence

At dawn, the city fades behind the wake. All that remains is the lapping water, the horizon and the taut line. A Marseille interlude you never forget.

From sea to table

Your catch, elevated in the kitchen

Back at the quay, the sea carries on into the plate. The fish brought up in the morning is cleaned, prepared and cooked simply to reveal its freshness: grilled, as tartare or à la plancha, depending on the day's mood.

That is the whole point of l'Estéou: honest cooking, rooted in the Mediterranean, where the produce comes before the show. Discover how the fishing works · off Pointe Rouge · book your trip.
